sun shining on a lake

Yes, Jesus was serious.  He always is.

We have two instances in Scripture where Jesus said go “sin no more”.

John 5:14

“Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.”

John 8:11

“She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”

Would Jesus tell anyone to do something that he knew was impossible?

Wolves in Sheep Clothing

Jesus warned us many times in scripture to beware of Fasle Prophets.

Matthew 7

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

When a preacher tells you he sins every day, and so does everyone, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

He is telling you a lie! Let’s see what the Apostle John has to say about this.

I would rather follow Johns advice, than todays Modern Preachers!

5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

That is very clear and needs no explanation, it says what it says, and it means what it means.

John also warns us in verse 7 Little children, let no man deceive you.

Many are deceived, on their way to hell but because of some false preacher, think they are on their way to heaven!

Mistakes Are Not Sin

Nowhere in scripture does it ever say that we are never going to make a mistake. I may add two numbers up and get the wrong answer.

I may be walking down the road and trip, fall, and break my leg.

We are still human and will always make mistakes.

But wilfull sin is never a mistake.

Isa 30

21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying,

This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

1Jn 4

4 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 Cor 11

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Numbers 15 – Foundational Truth

This is very important truth here. This is one of the scriptures that helped me to understand that God will never accept a sinful lifestyle. We MUST depart from ALL evil.

Notice, mistakes, or errors are treated much differently than presumptous sin.

22 And if ye have erred, and not observed all these commandments, which the Lord hath spoken unto Moses,

23 Even all that the Lord hath commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day that the Lord commanded Moses, and henceforward among your generations;

24 Then it shall be, if ought be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one young bullock for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour unto the Lord, with his meat offering, and his drink offering, according to the manner, and one kid of the goats for a sin offering.

25 And the priest shall make an atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them; for it is ignorance: and they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto the Lord, and their sin offering before the Lord, for their ignorance:

26 And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.

27 And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering.

28 And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the Lord, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.

29 Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.

30 But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the Lord; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

Notice here that the soul who does a sin presumptuosly, or willfully is cut off.

31 Because he hath despised the word of the Lord, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.

And now, we are given an example of a person who sins presumptuously, or with full knowledge.

32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.

33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.

34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.

35 And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.

36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses.

He was PUT TO DEATH for gathering sticks on the Sabbath Day!

Why was such severe punishment applied?

Because this man KNEW what he was doing was wrong!!

And so it is with us, when WE sin willfully or with full knowledge we also are cut off from God

Again, notice there was mercy when someone made a mistake, or erred.

Abide in Mehouse and fall foliage

In John 15, the Apostle was teaching the same thing. If we do not abide in Christ, we will be cut off.

John 15

15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

vineyard with grapes

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

“Go, and Sin No More” Jesus will help us, for he has all power in heaven and earth.
