Some years ago I was walking in my back 27 acres of farm land in Southeast Missouri, and the Lord spoke these words into my heart.
“I am The Vine.”
I have never forgotten it to this very day.
It is a verse found in the book of John, chapter 15.
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
Jesus Is The Vine
I am so glad Jesus is the Vine!
Without HIM I can do nothing! He is my LIFE! My strength!
When you look at a real vine as pictured above, you realize that all the water and nutrients come from that vine, go into the branch and then produce those beautiful and delicious purple grapes.
Jesus is our Life Giving Vine! Thru Jesus we obtain the strength to resist all evil and press forward.
I am glad for that because this is a spiritual battle, our enemies are invisible.
How do you fight an invisible foe?
Abide In Me, The Answer for Victory!
Jesus tells us in John 15.4
” Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”
If for some reason a grape producing branch that was connected to the Vine were cut off, what would happen?
Eventually the branch would dry up and die, and certainly would stop producing those luscious grapes!
So it is spiritually.
We must abide in Jesus, or stay with Jesus if we want to continue to produce the good fruits of the Spirit.
Good fruits like:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5.22-23.
Truly, all of our strength comes from Jesus.
Paul said, ” I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Phil. 4.13.
I think it is a good reminder for us to always remember where our strength to live right comes from. We should always give God all the glory for any good in our lives, for HE is the one that produced it!
